SCI’s catalysts for chemical processing include nickel catalysts for use in improving the quality of oil/fat and resin (hydrogenation), copper catalysts free of heavy metal chrome, and titanium catalysts free of heavy metal antimony to polymerize polyester. The characteristics and application of each catalyst are as follows:

Flake (droplet) Reduced Nickel Catalysts (SO series)

Features and applications

Features Applications
The flake (droplet) reduced nickel catalyst is a catalyst produced through the following process: Nickel salt is supported on purified diatomaceous earth, dried, reduced, dispersed in hardended oil and solidified.
It offers strong activity and high selectivity as a catalyst for processing fats and oils.
1. Selective hardening or full hardening of animal/vegetable fats and oils
2. Production of edible hardened oils such as oleomargarine, shortening, etc.
3. Selective hardening and full hardening of fatty acids
4. Hydrogenation reaction of other fats and oils

Grade

SO-350 Catalyst for complete saturation of fatty acids. Shows high hydrogenation activity on fatty acids and has excellent activity stability due to its high resistance to acid with restricted elution of nickel into fatty acid. Hydrogenation into extremely low iodine values is possible. Filterability is good due to its high resistance to acid.
SO-650 Catalyst for hydrogenation of edible fats and oils which requires high trans. Produced through a formulation that is different from that used for typical poisoned catalysts.
It has the following excellent features:
・Hydrogenation reactor is not contaminated by the poisoning material.
・Foul odor typically found after hydrogenated reaction in poisoned catalysts does not occur.
SO-750 Durable catalyst for vegetable and fish oils. In particular, it delivers excellent filterability. High-quality, versatile catalyst, which shows high activity and excellent selectivity in fully hardening and selective hardening of various vegetable and fish oils.
SO-850 High-quality grade that has well-balanced performance of activity, selectivity and filterability for both vegetable and fish oils. In particular, it shows high activity and excellent selectivity in full hardening of fish oils requiring high catalyst performance. Also shows high activity in hydrogenation of fatty acids, especially under high-pressure conditions.

Stabilized Nickel Catalysts (SN series)

Features Applications
The Stabilized Nickel Catalyst is a catalyst produced through the following process: Nickel salt is supported on purified diatomaceous earth, dryed, reduced, and stabilized. It is usually used for hydrogenation reaction of organic compounds and has strong hydrogenation activity and high selectivity. 1. Partial or fully hardening reaction of fat and oil
2. Nuclear hydrogenation reaction of benzene
3. Hydrogenation reaction to C-C double bond and triple bond
4. Hydrogenation of resin
5. Other general organic compounds, liquid phase hydrogenation reaction

Grade

SN-250 High nickel contents and has excellent poison resistance and low-temperature activity. It is used for various hydrogenation reactions of fat and oil. Also it has sharp particle distribution and has excellent filterability.
SN-300 High-selectivity catalyst in which alkali earths are added as promoters. It shows high activity and selectivity to reactants that are subject to hydrogenolysis, even at high temperature. In particular, it shows high activity and selectivity to hydrogenation of phenol under low hydrogen pressure.
SN-750 Grade that is a further improved version of SN-250. It has high specific surface area and shows high activity and selectivity to various hydrogenation reactions. Also it has sharp particle distribution and has excellent filterability after reaction. It is useful for making processes efficient in repeated use.

Chrome-free Copper Catalysts

Features and applications

Features Applications
Catalyst developed as a substitute for a copper chromites catalyst.
Compared with nickel catalysts, copper catalysts are characterized by having mild hydrogenation activity.
These catalysts have three forms, tablets and extrusions for fixed bed reactor and powders for fluid bed reactor. We can make prototypes of molded models of each grade upon request.

3. Hydrogenation reaction of aldehydes and ketones
4. Hydrogenation reaction of alkenes and nitro compounds
5. Dehydrogenation reaction of alcohols

Grade

KC-1 Calcium oxide and silica are contained in copper oxide. The catalyst shows a stable performance even under high temperature and high pressure.
CuZ-1 Zirconia and silica are contained in copper oxide. The catalyst has excellent acid resistance.
CuF-1 Calcium oxide, silica, iron oxide, and alumina are contained in copper oxide. The catalyst has excellent heat resistance.
